Living in His Joy
Sometimes our lives seem so difficult that we ache for the day we can be with God in His Home in heaven.  It's normal to have those feelings at times, but we must remember we are here for a purpose--"for such a time as this" as it was said in the book of Esther in the Bible.

I was deeply touched when I read a story about George Whitefield, a great evangelist, who was talking to some friends one day, relating the difficulties of ministry.  He explained that he was weary and was glad his work and ministry would soon be over.  He stated that he was excited to depart this old earth to be with Christ.

His friends agreed with him--all except for one, Mr. Tennant.  Noting his disagreement, Whitefield said, "Well, Brother Tennant, you are the oldest among us; do you not rejoice to think that your time to go Home is near?"

Tennant answered bluntly, "I have nothing to do with death.  My business is to live as long as I can, and as well a I can, and serve my Savior as faithfully as I can, until He thinks it's time to call me Home.

Mr. Tennant had grasped a truth that rings as true to each of us today as it did then.  Now is the time to deepen our prayer life, spend time in God's Word, memorize Scripture and study--really study--the Word of God.  It is never too late, regardless of our age, to learn new things, grow spiritually, and rejoice in our walk with the Lord.  Things look better when we look "up" to God for the direction and fulfillment of our life.  In fact, it's impossible to look "down" when you are looking "up"!

Jesus tells us that He came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10 ).  It is His desire that we make the most of the time we have here, to enjoy the opportunities He gives us and to reach out to others in His love.  And, someday, we will rejoice when we hear Him say:  "Well done, good and faithful servant".  (Matthew 25:21 )
